The City of St. Catharines has installed their first rainbow crosswalk downtown St. Catharines at the intersection of Garden Park and St. Paul Street.
The Official Opening of the crosswalk is scheduled for next week with the mayor and members of the city’s LGBTQ2+ advisory committee.
This crosswalk includes a chevron with black and brown stripes to represent the queer & transgender Black, Indigenous & people of colour. The pink & blue stripes represent the transgender community. The purple in the chevron intersects with the white to represent the Haudenosaunee & Anishinaabe Territory & the Tow Row Wampum agreement.
The crosswalk was first called for 2 years ago by Elspeth Silverwood and friends to promote inclusiveness. You can read more in The St. Catharines Standard Thursday, May 27, 2021 article by Karena Walter by clicking the link below.
