Downtown St. Catharines Welcomes First Sustainability Director

We are happy to introduce Lindsay Taylor as our new Sustainability Director.

The St Catharines Downtown Association (SCDA) is the first BIA in Ontario to have a full-time Sustainability Director.

The SCDA took on this initiative as a way to help attract and support the rise in residents coming Downtown through initiatives such as increased tree coverage, garbage solutions, street beautification, and accessibility.

Lindsay has strong experience in research & grant writing and has already been successful with bringing in over $15,000 for the St. Catharines Downtown Association through the United Nations Youth Breaking Barriers to Employment and ECOCANADA. We are eagerly waiting to hear whether we were successful with a $60,000 proposal through the Inclusive Community grant program. Moving forward, Lindsay will be preparing a proposal for greening and beautification through the Ontario Community Environment Fund.

Over the past year, Lindsay also led a team of four to perform comprehensive research on urban street trees (USTs) in the BIA. This research will be shared with academic and professional audiences at the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) conference in May and the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) conference in Darwin, Australia in September.
