Did You Know? Breakfast Is Served Every Single Day in Downtown St. Catharines. On March 8, 2026, St. George’s Anglican Church in Downtown St. Catharines and the Community Breakfast Program at St. George’s celebrate a remarkable milestone: 30 years of serving breakfast every single day of the year.
What began in 1996 as a small response to downtown church discussions about growing concerns about food insecurity quickly became a daily commitment. Launched with just two days of service per week, the Community Breakfast Program expanded within a year to seven days a week, a promise that has remained uninterrupted for three decades.
Today, more than 32,000 breakfasts are served annually, supported by approximately 180 dedicated volunteers and the generosity of the St. George’s congregation, local businesses, community partners, and individual donors.
The breakfast is simple and consistent: porridge, cereal, toast with cheese spread or peanut butter and jam, juice, tea, and coffee. But the impact goes far beyond the meal itself. The program offers reliability, dignity, and a welcoming space in the heart of downtown — where everyone is received with respect.
