Winter Downtown D'Lish - aiding local eateries

Tim Stacey | The Brock Press

The St. Catharines downtown may as well be a World’s food court. From Thai to Arabic, Korean to Japanese and Irish pub grub to Mexican, there’s something for everyone. Despite the variety offered on and off of St. Paul Street, it can be difficult and even intimidating to try new foods. If you have ever had trouble breaking into a new culinary scene downtown, then you are in luck. From Jan. 18 to Feb. 2, the St. Catharines Downtown Association is hosting their Winter Downtown D’lish.   For full story, see The Brock Press here

    Butt-out receptacles downtown

    St. Catharines Standard

From the St. Catharines Standard, September 29, 2012: Downtown sidewalks can breathe a sigh of relief.  Smokers now have a legitimate place to butt out, after 24 cigarette receptacles were installed Wednesday across the downtown.  The butt receptacles, scattered from One St. Paul St. to the Carlisle St. area, are something the St. Catharines Downtown Association has wanted for years. "Cigarette butts are not biodegradable, they're actually litter," said executive director Tisha Polocko.  "There's a lot of time and effort to clean them up." After getting the city's permission, the association purchased the receptacles at a pricey $668 each, Polocko…

Angela Scappatura | St. Catharines Standard

The day-long event is part of the Culture Capitals of Canada program Niagara Nights of Art. Similar events are being held in municipalities throughout the region, funded by the same program. There have been several festivals in the St. Catharines core this year that feature arts, but this first-time event isn’t quite like the others, said Elizabeth Fritshaw, event co-ordinator with the St. Catharines Downtown Association. “(Art city) is multidisciplinary, completely free and completely all ages. It’s attracting a wide range of…
