    Butt-out receptacles downtown

    From the St. Catharines Standard, September 29, 2012: Downtown sidewalks can breathe a sigh of relief.  Smokers now have a legitimate place to butt out, after 24 cigarette receptacles were installed Wednesday across the downtown.  The butt receptacles, scattered from One St. Paul St. to the Carlisle St. area, are something the St. Catharines Downtown Association has wanted for years. "Cigarette butts are not biodegradable, they're actually litter," said executive director Tisha Polocko.  "There's a lot of time and effort to clean them up."     Dancers, musicians, artists and performers will descend on downtown St. Catharines on Saturday as part of Art City. The day-long event is part of the Culture Capitals of Canada program Niagara Nights of Art. Similar events are being held in municipalities throughout the region, funded by the same program.
