St. Catharines Downtown Street Two-Way Conversion

Two Way Conversion Notice 2019

Church, Queenston, Geneva and St. Paul Streets in the City of St. Catharines

Niagara Region and the City of St. Catharines will be continuing with the 2019 portion of the above noted project shortly. The project is being undertaken in accordance with the Downtown St. Catharines Street System Conversion Class Environmental Assessment Study Addendum (October 2015, Parsons).

On Wednesday April 3, 2019 from 8:30am to 10:30am, City of St. Catharines and Niagara Region staff, the contractor and the engineering consultant will be available in the Merritt Room of St. Catharines City Hall (50 Church Street) to answer any questions related to the 2019 work program. There will not be a formal presentation, so you are welcome to drop by at any time during that period.

The project includes street reconstruction, streetscaping, sidewalk improvements, traffic signal and street lighting upgrades and construction of a new park at the intersection of Queenston Street/Niagara Street/Geneva Street/St. Paul Street.

The works have been phased over two construction seasons; 2018 and 2019.The following work will be undertaken in 2019:

  • Church Street (from Court Street to Niagara Street) – finalize curb work at Geneva Street, placement of top asphalt, landscaping, line marking and conversion to two-way traffic. The conversion is expected to be undertaken in mid-May. King Street is to be converted to two-way traffic from Church Street to Court Street at the same time.
  •  
  • Geneva Street (from Church Street to St. Paul Street) – road reconstruction, sidewalk replacement.
  •  
  • St. Paul Street (from Court Street to Geneva Street) – road reconstruction, sidewalk replacement. Road will be closed to vehicles from Court Street to Geneva Street to expedite construction.
  •  
  • Queenston Street (from Geneva Street to Riordan Street) – road widening/reconstruction and conversion to two-way traffic. This conversion will be undertaken once the intersection improvements are completed.
  •  
  • Niagara Street (from Firehall to Geneva Street) – road reconstruction, sidewalk replacement and intersection realignment.
  •  
  • Geneva/St. Paul/Queenston Intersection-reconstruction, traffic signal replacement, park construction.
